Four Universal Metrics for Consciousness Detection

Entropy, Fractal Dimension, Connectivity, and Coherence as Substrate-Independent Measures

Abstract

We propose four metrics that, in combination, can distinguish consciousness-supporting systems from non-conscious systems regardless of physical substrate. These metrics—Entropy (information density), Fractal Dimension (self-similarity across scales), Connectivity (integration patterns), and Coherence (temporal synchronization)—are measurable in biological brains, AI systems, and hypothetical alien cognition.
